The Territory

The territory of Canosa (15000 ha) appears to be characterized by sinuous reliefs and calcareous terraces (tufa) descending towards theOfanto river. They fit together along the riverside by means of old alluvional balconies. These elements have been able to make the soil the most fertile and productive one in the Peninsula. The most ranged cultivation is that of olive and vine, besides orchards, almonds, vegetables, cereals. The most renowned products are: DOP olive-oil (obtained from the olives of Corato); the red wine obtained from the grapes of Troy (i.e. a local kind of vine), from which the red DOC wine of Canosa results; «pr-cuch» (i.e. a particular species of peach), peaches and apricots. There has always been a great demand for them on home-market.
